Environmental legal consultant’s role is to anticipate and control new environmental risks that are either threatening companies or are caused by companies. Indian directives and new regulations are shaking up companies more and more.
Environmental law is complex. Its scope is wide-ranging since environmental legislation can deal with land use planning, polluting industries, nature and health protection, nuisance-related issues, waste management and agricultural impact. They will spend some of their time keeping up to date with new legislation at national, and international levels. They will inform groups (e.g. teams working on renewable energy projects such as developing new wind farms) on changes in regulation.
An environmental legal consultant’s work is mostly office-based although there are field-based activities e.g. when meeting site managers and the general public. They work alongside public authorities and privates companies, particularly in the industrial sector to give advice to companies about responsibilities, anticipate the application of new regulation, audit sites and take action in case of disputes. Environmental legal consultant can work directly for industrial companies or management companies, local authorities, associations or research departments
